How to Deal with a Toxic Friend Without Losing Yourself
Are you struggling with how to deal with a toxic friend? Do you feel like you’re losing yourself in the process? You’re not alone.
We’ve all been there. We have that one friend who always seems to bring drama into our lives. No matter what we do, we can’t seem to shake them. They’re always negative, always critical, and always toxic.
Dealing with a toxic friend can be tough, especially if you don’t want to lose them entirely. But there are ways to deal with them without losing yourself in the process.
1) Set boundaries.
A toxic friend might try to sway you into saying negative things about other people to cause drama. This is not OK, so don’t let them do it. If they attempt this, just say “I appreciate that you’re looking out for my best interest, but I’m ok.”
If your friend is constantly crossing your boundaries, let them know what they are. If they continue to cross them, stand up for yourself and enforce those boundaries.
2) Limit your time with them.
Spending too much time with a toxic friend can be damaging to your mental health. Limit the amount of time you spend with them to no more than an hour a day.
